Earlier this year we congratulated Nigel Smith for his outstanding achievement of winning an NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award, and sent him wishes for the next round of the Pride in the Job Awards 2023 that would see the victors of the much sought after Seal of Excellence Award and the Regional Award.
Darren Smith Homes Ltd attended the North East Pride in the Job event that took place on the 3rd November at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, and it is with immense pride that we can announce Nigel’s success as he left the event with a Seal of Excellence Award and a Regional Award for the North East.

A repeat Pride in the Job winner, Nigel is an inspirational site manager who leads his team to build to a consistently high standard.
“Judging for the Awards is rigorous and for more than 40 years, Pride in the Job has been an important part of NHBC’s work to help drive construction quality and raise standards in house building. By recognising Nigel as one of the best site managers across the UK, we’re celebrating the vital role he plays in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.”
Over 8000 site managers were entered into the Pride in the Job Awards 2023, with only 444 winning a Quality Award and receiving an invitation to the next round. Nigel is one of twenty recipients of a Seal of Excellence Award and one of four recipients of a Regional Award in the North East.
Each site manager is assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawing and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.
The flagship competition has three categories for different sized businesses: small, medium and large house builders, plus a multi-storey category where site managers are working on projects up to seven storeys for multiple occupancy and finally the high-rise category for multiple occupancy projects over seven storeys.
Nigel will now go forward to compete for the ultimate prize in house building, the Pride in the Job Supreme Awards, which will be unveiled at a gala ceremony in London in January 2024.
