Brothers Darren and Nigel Smith always joke that they’re “just a couple of brickies who wanted to build a few houses” but they always prided themselves on quality, professionalism and attention to detail.

Like his brother, Darren, Nigel has worked for the family firm throughout his working life and is an advanced craft bricklayer.
He is also responsible for onsite management, including first aid and health and safety training.
Nigel prides himself on first-class work and also strives for excellence – an ethos which saw him declared a NHBC Supreme Winner in 2018, beating off competition from 16,000 other small builders. View the press release.

A brick-layer by trade, Darren also carries out many other tasks, as well as working to ensure the day-to-day running of Darren Smith Homes and ensuring the company’s wheels are turning smoothly.
Mirfield born and bred, he has a strong sense of community and aims to help out local groups with sponsorship and practical support where possible. In his spare time, he enjoys family time and watching rugby and football.

Walk-to-school project celebrated
An innovative walk-to-school project celebrated a milestone this week with buns and banners outside Mirfield Library.
Crowlees School parent Dianne Watkinson devised and launched the Hoppa five years ago and is delighted with the success of her walking bus / park-and-stride hybrid idea.
