Darren Smith Homes has gained recognition as an ” Investor In People “

Investors in People is the national standard for best practise in people management. It looks at how your organisation treats its people and gets the best out of them. Darren Smith Homes gained the recognition for the Investors in People in December 2009.

Director Darren Smith said, “ He is delighted that the company has become an Investor in People. This recognition demonstrates that Darren Smith Homes aims to be a company that people would want to work for and that staff feel happy and motivated in their roles. Hard work, determination, and learning by example are all qualities that we believe are at the core of our business and we believe that our employees feel empowered to take on responsibility and to progress in their careers.”

The assessor commented in her report that:

The vision and values are at the heart of the way the business and individuals operate, all ‘striving for perfection.’

The sense of ‘team’ is very strong in the business and everyone pitches in to get the job done. As a result there is a strong culture of everyone learning and sharing together.

The directors learn and share by example in all that they do.

Staff feel trusted and empowered to do their jobs.

Everyone is motivated about the future of the company.

New development receives “outstanding results” in reducing carbon emmisions

The Mews

Our new development “The Mews” on Kitson Hill Road in Mirfield has achieved outstanding results in a recent test for Air Permeability.

West Yorkshire based Domestic Pressure Testing Company Airtight Solutions recently tested the Air Permeability of this Darren Smith Homes site. Their comments are as follows:

“The Air Tightness results achieved at The Mews Development were outstanding. Not only did the results exceed current Building Regulations but they would comfortably surpass future requirements as the country aims to reduce its Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions from dwellings. The Mews is to date the most Air Tight development Airtight Solutions has tested and is a credit to the excellent standard of build. If a building is Air Tight, hot air cannot escape through gaps and cracks in the external envelope whilst letting cold air in. This means a building will take a shorter space of time to heat and the temperature will remain for longer once the heating is turned off.  The benefits of this are reduced Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions and importantly, reduced energy bills for the occupant.  Achieving good Air Tightness results is key,  ensuring the energy efficiency of a building and Darren Smith Homes Ltd can be proud of their efforts at The Mews Development.”

“Student of the Year Award for Darren Smith Homes Apprentice”

scottoliver

Darren Smith Homes brickwork apprentices Scott Smith and Oliver Storrie are keeping up standards by becoming top performers in their NVQ level 3 advanced craft.

Scott Smith has recently been awarded an “Advanced Construction Award” in recognition of his outstanding  “distinction” in Advanced Craft at Kirklees College and further to this he has been recognised as “Student of the Year 2009/2010”. Congratulations to Scott on his excellent performance which was richly deserved. Scott is now looking forward to enhancing his growing stature by embarking on Site Management training.

Oliver Storrie is hot on Scott’s heels and is receiving excellent comments from the Advanced Craft tutors. This will hopefully lead to similar recognition.

Well done to both these gifted, self motivated young men!
